Circumstances Say Whether Minors Are “Emancipated”
Mind my ignorance I didn't read the full article. Tenebrous Member Jul 28, I re-read the title several times, and the quote in the OP twice Please tell me I'm not reading what I think I'm reading. Mammoth Jones Member Jul 28, Isn't sex with a 14 year old pretty illegal on its own?
EvilKatarn Member Jul 28, Is there any reason for this to be a specific law concerning just police officers? Of course it'll be rejected, it's nonsense. Seesaw15 Member Jul 28, Bit of a sensationalist title once you read all the information. ClosingADoor Member Jul 28, So the law states the age of consent is But police offers are banned from having sex with anyone under http://1dating.me/lyh/online-hookup-summary-about-yourself-examples.php Bit strange that last one indeed.
Either way, having sex with a year old should be a pretty clear case. UristMcDwarf Member Jul 28, I assume that Statutory Rape is still illegal. From what I'm reading, this law just seems to add an additional ban saying, "yeah, but it's REALLY illegal for police officers to have sex with minors!
Sex with a minor still has laws on the books, it just sounds like this would intentionally add police to this other Ohio Law For Hookup A Minor. The law overturned by the court prohibited police officers from having sex with minors if the Ohio Law For Hookup A Minor were more than two years older than the victim. It's fun to be outraged, but this is kinda convoluted. So a 35 year old cop fucked a guy who told him he was He never told this 18 year old he was a cop, or used his profession in any way to pressure this guy into sex.
Then it turns out the 18 year old is really 14, but never told the cop. Declaring the law unconstitutional is a bit odd, but I absolutely don't think the cop should be charged with any crimes based on what we know either. The cop being gay really has nothing to do with the issues here, so edited it out. Hades Hotgun Member Jul 28, Muzicfreq Banned Jul 28, Nudull Member Jul 28, What the fuck is up with Ohio police?
TS Member Jul 28, The headline is a bit jarring, but reading the article I get the theory that unless there is reason to believe Ohio Law For Hookup A Minor the officer used their position to coerce the other party in to sex, then that would not be grounds for a specific law.
However, I think that the basis for why there would be an implied coercion should be pretty similar to how teachers and other authority figures are treated.
What is really weird is if the state law says you can't have sex with someone under 16, then I don't understand why the jury would have ever had any trouble convicting read article 35 year old who had sex with a 14 year old. Seems like that aspect should've been better explained in the article.

Frankfurter Member Jul 28, A law that only makes it illegal for a specific profession, in this case police officers, sounds pretty damn unconstitutional, so unless I'm missing some critical information this actually sounds like the only decision.

KarmaCow Member Jul 28, Volimar Member Jul 28, Skiptastic Member Jul 28, Looks like the kid lied to the officer about his age. Salty Rice Member Jul 28, Sex with minors is illegal no matter what. I could be totally wrong but I imagine it's so there are harsher consequences due to the power dynamics involved.
Like getting charged with DUI on top of manslaughter when killing someone while drunk driving, though in that case a DUI is not exclusive to when someone is killed by source drunk driver. Wait this was legal in the first place?

MrNelson Member Jul 28, I agree in principle with an increased age of consent for certain professions - even if age Ohio Law For Hookup A Minor consent is 16 which I have no problem withfoster parents, teachers, police officers, and so forth should be held to a different standard just to avoid abuse of power. In this case, not knowing all the facts, I don't think the officer should be charged with it, though. There's no evidence of coercion or whatnot.
We all know teenagers never use the law to entrap young men. A law that only makes it illegal for a specific profession, in this case police officers, sounds pretty damn unconstitutional, so unless I'm missing some critical information this actually sounds like the only decision. The title makes it sound like this is an example of police getting undue protection from the judicial system, but that's not really accurate.

John Kowalski Banned Jul 29, So if i'm understanding this correctly the law would make is, uh, super illegal for cops to have sex with minors by coercing them using their status as policeman or policewoman, instead of the normal illegal?
Hades Hotgun Member Jul 29, The defense seemed to center on the fact that the minor lied about his age and said he was While the statutory rape law in Ohio may be considered strict liability I don't have any ideasome on the jury may have felt like they couldn't hold him responsible because of that.
